Enviroschools Encounters provide hands-on and discovery experiences focused on the environment for Year 4 – 8 students. Each year, a new theme gives teachers resources and inspiration for future teaching and learning. Past themes have included: the ngahere, farm, water, energy, eco-tourism, sustainable business and art.

This year’s theme is He tirohanga Māori – A Māori lens

A bi-annual event for secondary students interested in opportunities for professional careers in Northland primary industries. Attend interactive workshops run by inspiring industry professionals and get a taste of the exciting things happening in their working world.

Project Pest Control develops skills and provides qualifications in controlling possums, mustelids, rodents and feral cats. The course involves theory and in-field training, and career opportunities are investigated.  See nrc.govt.nz/projectpestcontrol for more information.

The Enviroschools WaiRestoration project engages young people and local communities in the restoration of waterways and biodiversity. The WaiFencing project stream develops skills and provides qualifications for building fences to exclude stock from waterways and other areas of biodiversity significance.

Term one and Term 2 2026

This workshop is designed for students to develop confidence and motivation
for climate action, wherever they are on their journey from anxiety to
empowerment. It is participatory, strengths based and solutions focused!

  • Foundations of why climate action matters
  • Key areas for emissions reduction in Aotearoa NZ
  • Kickstarts high-impact action in communities and schools.
  • Finish as groups with the beginnings of Action Plans
  • Two 1 hour blocks, one month apart
  • Adaptable for year 7 - 13 students
