Teamwork makes the dream work

Ruawai College has joined forces with the Kaipara Moana Remediation (KMR) programme and Whitebait Connection to help restore the Paparoa streamside that runs through Paparoa Village.

The project came about when Ruawai College Ag Hort teacher, Peni Leao and Enviroschools Facilitator for secondary schools, Jacque Knight were working together on a curriculum linked teaching unit around restoration.

Thanks to a developing relationship between the college and the KMR Programme, Jacque was able to identify the Paparoa Stream as a nearby spot in need of a good dose of restoration love. It was decided that KMR would kindly supply the 1,132 plants from two small local nurseries for the project and a planting day IS scheduled for July when the learning unit comes to an end.

Just when they thought things couldn’t get any better, Patricia Clark, from Whitebait Connection heard about the project and has offered to do some of the water testing and teaching around whitebait on the site.

Awesome mahi Ruawai College, we look forward to hearing about the project progress later this year!
