Northland Regional Council commissioned eCoast to develop a hydrodynamic model of Whangarei Harbour that could be used as a tool to assess the impacts of stormwater outfalls located in waterways draining into the Whangārei Harbour. A yearlong simulation of the model was run including stormwater discharges from three hypothetical discharge pipes in order to assess the dilution of contaminants over a range of mixing zones. The results were produced with the goal of back calculating acceptable limits for discharge concentrations for a range of contaminants.
