National Ticketing Solution - Motu Move

How you pay to travel on public transport in Aotearoa New Zealand is changing.

The National Ticketing Solution (NTS) will provide a new national system for paying for all public transport in New Zealand. The new system is called Motu Move.

Customers will be able to pay for public transport with contactless debit or credit cards and digital payment methods (such as Apple Pay and Google Pay) on mobile phones and smart watches. Customers will also be able to pay using a prepaid Motu Move card and pre-bought tickets.

Motu Move will be implemented region by region starting in Canterbury from early 2025.

The date for the rollout in Northland is to be confirmed but estimated currently as mid-late 2025.

The NTS is a partnership between the New Zealand Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) and 13 Public Transport Authorities (PTAs).
